Every Day is a Good day to be Neighborly: Bees, Wasps and other pests are not invited, let's address them.

Everyone has a DUTY OF MAINTENANCE of their property

The owners and occupants (including lessees) of each lot shall, at his sole cost and expense, keep his/her Lot, Dwelling Unit, and all modifications in a well-maintained, safe, clean and attractive condition at all times.

Such maintenance includes, but is not limited to, the following:

1.) Prompt removal of all litter, trash, refuse and waste;

2.) Keeping lawn, flower gardens and landscaped areas maintained and attractive;

3.) Keeping parking areas, walkways and driveways maintained;

4.) Knowing and complying with all city building codes and requirements

5.) Keeping Property areas clear of pests and insect infestations

Bees and wasps can pose a nuisance and potential threat, especially when their nests are located near homes or frequented areas. Addressing these issues involves a combination of prevention, safe nest removal, and, in some cases, pest control measures. This will help you and will keep the uninvited pests from disturbing your neighbors.

Prevention:

  • Seal Entry Points: Repair any cracks or holes in walls, roofs, or foundations to prevent bees and wasps from entering.

  • Use Screens: Ensure windows and other openings have tight-fitting screens to keep insects out.

  • Minimize Food Sources: Promptly clean up spills, store food securely, and minimize outdoor food sources like garbage bins.

  • Repellent Plants: Consider planting herbs and flowers that deter bees and wasps, such as marigolds and mint.

Safe Nest Removal:

  • Avoid Provoking: Observe nests from a safe distance and avoid sudden movements or loud noises that could provoke the inhabitants.

  • Call Professionals: For large or high-risk nests, especially those of honey bees, bumble bees, yellow jackets, or hornets, it's best to contact a pest control company or beekeeper for removal or relocation https://www.terminix.com/blog/diy/6-steps-you-should-take-for-beehive-removal/ and.

  • DIY Options (Use with Caution): For smaller nests, especially those of mud daubers, you can try removing them manually or using DIY wasp sprays with dish soap and water.

  • Consider Natural Deterrents: Some natural smells, like vinegar or cinnamon, can help deter bees and wasps, but may not be effective for large nests.

Pest Control Measures (Use with Caution):

  • Aerosol Sprays: Aerosol wasp and hornet sprays can be used to temporarily knock down wasps around the nest.

  • Pesticides: Small amounts of pesticides (dust or wettable powder) can be applied into the nests of carpenter bees and cicada killers.

  • Always Exercise Caution: When dealing with bees and wasps, especially social species like honey bees and yellow jackets, always approach the nest with caution, preferably at night when they are less active, and avoid using lights.

Overall let's all be neighborly and remove unwanted pests from the community to aid in a peaceful living for all those in the neighborhood.
